What to bring on a Yoga Teacher Training in Spain
So, you’ve decided to participate in a Yoga Teacher Training in Spain! Congratulations on taking this leap—you are exactly where you need to be.
Whether you want to deepen your own practice or share your beautiful energy by teaching in your own shala, getting yoga teacher certified will be an unforgettable and truly rewarding experience (speaking from personal experience, shoutout to YogaWeeks for an incredible month.
As you count down the weeks, days, maybe even minutes until you arrive in beautiful Barcelona, you might wonder: what do I need to pack? We’re here to help. Check out YogaWeeks’ top 10 must-have items for a Yoga Teacher Training in Spain.
1. Yoga Clothes
A typical day in the Yoga Teacher Training Spain program at YogaWeeks includes morning meditation, morning practice, class time, and an afternoon session. Since you’ll be moving your body in practice and demonstrating postures in class, it’s important to bring clothes that are comfortable and will move with you. That being said, all clothes can be yoga clothes—no need to buy a bunch of new ones if you already have some in your closet :). I brought 2 sports bras, 2 workout tops, 1 pair of leggings, 2 pairs of shorts, and a sweater to stay warm on cooler mornings. P.S. If you find you need more workout clothes, you can always get something at the many stores in Barcelona.
2. Comfortable Shoes
Let’s not forget about shoes! Yes, you’ll need some shoes for outside the shala, even during a Yoga Teacher Training in Spain. If you haven’t been to Europe before, you’ll quickly learn that the shoes you wear can make or break your day. Barcelona is a beautiful city and wonderful to explore on foot. I recommend bringing a comfortable pair of sneakers and sandals. I personally liked wearing sandals to the shala for easy slip-on and off (we take off our shoes to maintain a clean yoga space).
3. Water Bottle
Multiple physical practices mean it’s important to stay hydrated! The yoga shala has cold filtered water available, so you can drink what you need after practice for a healthy Yoga Teacher Training in Spain.
4. Equipment – Do I Need to Bring My Own Mat?
Nope! YogaWeeks provides mats, blocks, straps, and blankets for the Yoga Teacher Training Spain program and the rooftop classes. That being said, a couple of people choose to bring their own if they have a preference for a certain kind. Additionally, if you decide to practice on your own time at the park or beach, having a mat or towel might be handy.
5. Essential Oils or Incense
The shala and many of the wonderful teachers use incense or essential oils to enhance meditation or physical practice. You may find that you want to continue meditating and doing self-practice on the weekends. I found that using essential oils is a great way to focus my mind and be present.
6. A Book
Your weekdays at your Yoga Teacher Training in Spain with YogaWeeks will be packed with a full schedule of meditation, physical practice, classroom work, and meal times to get to know your fellow yoga teachers in training. After class, I loved to head to Bogatell Beach or Ciutadella Park to relax and read. Sometimes I would read novels or recommended yogi books to deepen my understanding of the concepts we learned in class. Here are a few of our favorite books right now: “Yoga Sutras of Patanjali,” “Yoga Anatomy” by Leslie Kaminoff, and “Stillness Speaks” by Eckhart Tolle.
7. Tiger Balm
While the physical practice will feel very rewarding as you begin to feel your body and mind strengthen, it is not without its challenges. After a few days of practice, many find that their muscles are a bit sore. Going for a long walk during lunch breaks or after class is a great way to reduce this. Additionally, applying a topical balm such as Tiger Balm can also provide your muscles with some much-needed TLC.
8. Pens, Pencils, Highlighters
During your Yoga Teacher Training in Spain with YogaWeeks, you will learn a lot about a variety of subjects. The Yoga Teacher Training Spain program at YogaWeeks provides a comprehensive manual to help you keep track of everything, but it’s a good idea to bring along some pencils and highlighters to note the most important items.
9. Journal
A Yoga Teacher Training in Spain is a deeply transformative experience and can be very emotional for many. Journaling can be a great way to express yourself and relax after a full day of practice and learning. You can also journal and set an intention at the beginning of the training and come back to it at the end. I personally loved this and loved seeing how much YogaWeeks had helped me grow and learn.
10. Sunscreen
Doing a Yoga Teacher Training in Spain means plenty of lovely sunshine. So, having a nice eco-friendly sunscreen for your skin and the environment is key.
With these essentials packed and your heart open to the experience, your Yoga Teacher Training in Spain is sure to be a transformative journey you’ll cherish forever. Namaste! 🌞
